We are Sara Luisa and Marta, two little girls who are learning to do different activities and want to share this experience with other children.
Follow our crafts, cooking tips and gardening projects.
I present you a simple experiment to demonstrate the solubility of different substances. This experiment will help us to see if some materials are soluble in water applying the scientific method.
The substances that we use are:
nailvarnish
icing sugar
rice
cotton wool
instant coffee powder
tap water
We also need the following lab (or kitchen) utensils:
measuring jug
5 glasses
teaspoon.
I formulated my hypothesis and you can see in the video the results.
Today we'll regenerate potato plants from parts of potatoes.
Did you know that for avoiding potatoes to grow little roots you have to put it in the same bag as an apple? Apples release etilen a substace which stops the roots growing.
But, today we will use potatoes from vegetative parts of the tuber so we need some that did not stay close to any apple. When are old, potatoes start to grow roots to regenerate themself. After using the potatoes for cooking, we can use part of the peelings to regenerate the entire plant.
You will need:
a grid or a net
a container to fill with water
old potatoes
Watch our video to discover how we did it.
As you can see, it's important that the potatoes are covered with a thin layer of water specially during the first days, until the roots grow. After the roots come out you don't have to worry about the lack of water because they can submerge in the water in the container underneath.
Also we could see how an opaque container could be better for growing taller plants.
We hope you like our potato project for gardening.
Don't throw away the coffee wells after making your coffee!
Do you know coffee is a primary product? It is consumed worldwide. On the other side, it can cause pollution because of the release of the disposable cups and of coffee wells in the environment. Coffee wells thrown in the rubbish bin go to the organic waste which is taken to the city dump causing problems of pollution.
In our previous video we made compost with coffee wells (Homemade compost)
Today, we'll help you to repair your wood furniture, only using oil & coffee wells.
I was inspired by my aunty's coffee rostery (coffee factory) in Italy. It's Caffé mo.ca of Moka Express. so, we just wants to give to all the coffee lovers a way to recycle their coffee wells in a daily use.
The coffee wells darken the wood and the oil illuminate it.
Octopus salad is easy to make, even for children. But, if you're too young, be careful with the knife when you're cutting vegetables.
You'll need:
cooked octopus tentacles (200 g)
1 lemon
vinegar (we like red wine vinegar)
1/2 onion
2 carrots
1/2 paprika pepper
1/2 green pepper
1/2 yellow pepper
1 cucumber
olives
olive oil
parsley
black pepper
salt
How we make it? This is our method:
We usually buy cooked octopus tentacles so we have the just quantity and it is easier to prepare becuse it is cooked at the right point. If we buy freezed octopus we cook it (withouth defrosting before) a couple of minutes in the microwave with some water.
Dice the octopus and all the vegetables.
Mix them alltogether.
Add lemon, parsley, salt, black pepper, olive oil and vinegar as you like.
Store in the fridge until you have to serve it.
We hope you enjoy the salad and that you follow our blog and videos.
Today we're doing our second cooking session. We´ll cook hummus and it will be delicious!!!
The word Hummus comes from the Middle Orient and it really means ... chickpea in Arabic. The recepie we are going to show in the video is typical of the Syria, Lebanon, Israel and Palestine cuisine.
You can pick it up with pita bread or with carrots or snacks of bread as we usually do.
The ingredients for hummus are:
tahini
lemon juice
garlic
chickpeas
We like to add some black pepper and sweet paprika.
The ingredients of tahini are:
sesame
liquid (water or oil)
salt.
We usually use olive oil because it is healtier.
The hummus should have a proper texture, neither too slack nor too stiff.
Compost is good for plants. It's like food for them. It makes them grow better and healthier. Compost is the decomposition of organic waste where the vegetables and animals rests are transformed into fertilizer.
In the video we show you how to make a homemade compost bin using plastic bottles.
Compost can have different elements and each compost is different from others due to the elements that you put inside. Let's see what we can use to make it.
To make the compost we´ll need:We can´t put:
organic restsinorgnic rests (such as plastic, metal, glass)
vegetable peels bones, fish and meat
coffee wells liquids (such as milk, coffee, oil, alcohol)
egg shells dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese)
prunning remains, dry leaves battery
WARNIGS
Take the leached away every day to avoid smells. You can dilute it in ten parts of water and use it to water your plants: it's rich in nutrients and microrganisms that helps your plants to grow.
If you cut your vegetable waste in small pieces they will degradate sooner, and remember to cover with a thin layer of soil every day to avoid smells.
Keep away from adding cooked food, fish waste or meat. the decomposition can cause smells that are unpleasent in a urban environment.
You must steer clear of introducing infected plants in your compost, otherwise you could spread the pests into your garden.
It will take two or three months to mature and be an organic sustrate to mix with soil for your plants.
We hope that you liked our compost bin for a city balcony.
Protect the environment, REDUCE first, REUSE and at last RECYCLE!
Do you know there is lots of plastic in the ocean and it produces pollution dangerous for marine life🐟🐳🐋?
To protect the enviroment, we recycle plastic materials!!!💗
If we want to reduce the contamination in our planet, we have to start from little things in our lives. We reuse plastic bottles to use them in our garden. But, first, we have to transform them in something more useful...
We're going to show you how to make recycled bottle pots!
Please, for this activity use the following materials:
A plastic bottle with tap
A corkscrew
A saw knife
Soil
Plants
Water
Kitchen paper
A marker (if you want to draw something nice on it)
We hope that you enjoy our video and reuse lots of plastic bottles to protect our environment.
